5 DIY ACNE MASKS – FAST RESULTS
I am one of those people who have never had to deal with acne until I became an adult. I’m not a huge fan of wearing a lot of makeup and, let’s be honest, it doesn’t help acne and usually makes the situation worse. Here are five DIY face mask for acne that I have tried that have actually been effective at helping get rid of pimples and fade scars fast:
1-2 tablespoons of raw or manuka honey
1 teaspoon of pure lemon juice
Mix both together and let it sit on your face for 15 to 20 minutes then rinse with cool water.
Manuka or raw honey contain vitamins B and C, has anti-inflammatory properties, and is a natural moisturizer which is good for healing current breakouts and preventing new ones from forming. Lemon juice is packed with vitamin c and has astringent properties which acts as a natural bleaching agent and can help clean the pimples and fade acne scars.
SPIRULINA FACE MASK
2 tablespoons of spirulina
1 tablespoon of raw or manuka honey
2 to 3 drops of tea tree essential oils
1 tablespoon of filtered water
Combine ingredients and let the mask sit on your face for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
Spirulina is an alkaline super food packed with most of the essential vitamins that you need on a daily basis and contains high amounts of chlorophyll which aides in eliminating toxins and fighting free radicals as well as healing inflammation. All of this promotes clear skin. Tea tree essential oil is a natural disinfectant that is known to unblock pores and dry out pimples fast. The benefits of honey are the same as listed above. The water is used to thin out the product and should be filtered to prevent adding harmful toxins to the skin.
1-2 tablespoons of baking soda (depending on how thick you like your mask)
1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
1-2 tablespoons of filtered water
Mix ingredients. Apply mask and let sit on your face for 5 to 10 minutes. When taking it off, gently rub your face for mild exfoliation and rinse with cool water.
Baking soda is a natural exfoliator and when applied to acne, it dries out pimples and removes dead skin which in return, reveals a more even skin tone. Olive oil is moisturizing, contains essential vitamins for the skin, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties when applied to the skin. It is also one of the many oils that will not clog your pores. The benefits of water are the same as above.
ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FACE MASK
1-2 capsules of activated charcoal (about a tablespoon)
1-2 tablespoons of water
2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil
Combine ingredients and apply to your face. Let it sit on your face for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse with cool water.
Activated charcoal pulls toxins from the skin and has natural detoxifying properties. It can be used to clear pores by removing excess dirt and oil from the skin. The benefits of tree oil and filtered water are the same as above.
2 tablespoons of bentonite clay
1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (filtered water may be used if apple cider vinegar is too strong)
Combine ingredients using non-metal utensils. Using metal will decrease the effects of the bentonite clay. Apply to face and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes or until the mask is completely dry. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Like activated charcoal, bentonite clay attracts negative toxins from skin. It is also known to reduce inflammation and lighten scars quickly. Apple cider vinegar is made up of alpha hydroxy acids which aides in removing dead skin cells and acts as a natural toner, restoring pH balance to the skin.
Be sure to tone and moisturize after after using a mask to restore pH balance to skin. I prefer to use witch hazel and aloe vera gel, which also helps fade scars. If using the bentonite clay mask, you may skip the toning step as apple cider vinegar is a natural toner.
Hopefully all these tips will help you!
